Indian Army has been a recognized force across the
world. With changing scenarios across the borders and keeping its eastern neighbour
in mind, Indian Army is gearing up for a major upgrade of its artillery units.
Recently it had brought 100 K9-Vajra self-propelled artillery guns that are of
155*52 calibre. It is going to repeat this order & buy another batch of 100
similar guns with modifications for cold weather & low temperature during
winters.

Indian Army is also modifying its 21 regiments
of 135*45 mm Sharang guns to 155*45 mm. 6 regiments have already been modified
while the remaining 15 will be modified in the next 5 years. Besides, Indian Army
is also buying indigenous Dhanush towed artillery guns that are of 155*45 mm
calibre and can fire APFSD shells to destroy armoured tanks and bunkers of
enemies. |

As if this was not enough, Indian Army is also
gearing up to buy atleast 150 ATAGS that are also indigenously developed by
ARDE (Armament Research and Development Establishment), Tata Advanced Systems
and Kalyani Strategic Systems in a joint venture. These ATAGS are 155*52
calibre guns that can also fire long-range shells at a distance of 75 kms, deep
inside enemy lines. |

Not just that new regiments and versions of Pinaka
MBRLS (multi-barrel rocket launcher systems) are also being tested and inducted
by the Indian Army. Till date, there are 3 versions of Pinaka namely Pinaka
MBRLS of 37 km, Pinaka Mk1 of 45 km and Pinaka ER of 100 km range. These
rockets will act as game changers in case of war by firing rockets in
salvo/fast mode and destroying enemy tanks, artillery guns and mechanised
infantry vehicles. |

With this kind of artillery, Indian Army will be
battle ready to fight a two-front war.
